Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation’s commercial site on Bathgate Road in Nickol is being leased to local entrepreneurs, Karratha Car Wash Pty Ltd, who are progressing development plans for Karratha’s first automatic car wash.

Construction of the state-of-the-art car and boat wash took another step towards becoming a reality after receiving development approval this month from the City of Karratha.

The extensive development in the Tambrey Shopping Precinct will consist of; two automatic car wash bays; two large bays for boats, trailers and larger vehicles; four smaller high-pressure car wash bays; plus six vacuum bays; and a dog wash.

Karratha Car Wash developers Anthony and Clorinda Boekhorst said that they hoped construction on the development could start soon.

“Now that we’ve received all the necessary approvals, we’re aiming to have construction underway in the next few months ready for an opening in late 2020,” said Mr Boekhorst.

Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation CEO Peter Jeffries said he was pleased the organisation’s lease of the strategically placed land to Karratha Car Wash Pty Ltd would soon see construction commencing.

“It’s great that more development is occurring alongside the Tambrey Village Shopping Centre, creating a quality commercial precinct on the western side of Karratha.”

“Leasing the land creates revenue for us to support other important projects whilst retaining ownership, and in this case will also deliver a much-needed facility for the community so it’s a great result for everyone,” he said.

DevelopmentWA is constructing a new access road on the southern side of the site which will allow for dual access to the car wash. The facility is due to be fully operational by late 2020.
